If displayed content needs to be changed, devices reconfigured or error messages checked, the support of external providers or service providers is required at many points. The costs incurred at this point and the time spent on briefings and subsequent approval loops can be significantly reduced: In July of this year, gekartel AG implemented the VNC feature in the GKT remote software. This saves time, nerves and operating costs, as expensive service calls are largely avoided.

The GKT-Remote software makes it possible

The history of the GKT remote software began 12 years ago. The background to this was the need for the gekartel service department to have remote access to all devices in order to monitor their functionality and maintain content. Thanks to the gekartel IT specialists, the software was continuously developed further until the Visual Network Computing feature (VNC for short) could even be implemented under Android in the summer of 2023. This makes the company one of the few to offer a VNC feature under Android.

Similar to well-known applications such as TeamViewer, the screen of the Infodisplay can be displayed on the user’s own computer and edited accordingly. The user logs in via the gkt remote management and monitoring software. After logging in, the desired device can be selected individually with a mouse click. The displayed user interface now corresponds to that of the Infodisplay and changes can be made.

If there is a support or service case, for example, this can be resolved independently thanks to the software update and it is no longer absolutely necessary to call out a service technician on site. There is also no more confusion when an error message is displayed: You can look it up directly yourself and, at best, rectify it. The software can also be used to play training videos so that, for example, employees from different branches can receive a simultaneous remote introduction to new products or processes.

As part of GKT-Remote, the VNC feature is integrated into the dashboard and offers the following advantages:

Device demonstration over a distance of 13,000 km

We used the VNC feature to show a customer based in South Africa how to operate our tablet and navigate through the Android settings menu live from Germany. The demonstration of the newly installed application software and the operation of our GKT Kiosk software also worked smoothly and impressed the customer immediately. Due to the high number of devices to be monitored, the possibility of remote maintenance is an absolute necessity for our partner. We are therefore the more pleased to be able to meet all their requirements with our robust info displays and remote maintenance access.
